Abstract:
The present study on “Ascorbic acid and Tocopherol content of tenrnmedicinal plant extracts of Manipur having anti-inflammatory properties†wasrnundertaken to analyse the ascorbic acid and tocopherol content in ten medicinalrnplants of Manipur (Cissus adnata, Debregeasia longifolia, Clerodendrumrnserratum, Polygonum barbatum, Colocasia gigantean, Allium hookeri,rnHouttuynia cordata, Oenanthe javanica, Allium odorum, Solanumrnxanthocarpum). The ascorbic acid and tocopherol content of ten medicinalrnplants ranged from 15.23±0.05 to 48.08±0.04mg ascorbic acid equivalents/100g onrndry weight, 1.5±0.11 to 6.09±0.08 mg α-tocopherol/100g on dry weightrnrespectively. The presence of high concentration of vitamin C and vitamin E inrnten medicinal plants might be responsible for their therapeutic effects andrnuses in the traditional system of medicine.
