Abstract:
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme wasrnlaunched from Panipat, Haryana on 22^nd January, 2015. The State ofrnHaryana is known for its worst Sex Ratio in the nation. Out of total 100rndistricts having the lowest Sex Ratio initially selected for the scheme, 12rndistricts were from Haryana. The performance of the scheme is to be evaluatedrnat the end of 12^th five year plan i.e. after 2017. But therngovernment of Haryana has made impressive claims regarding the success of thernscheme by declaring that the Sex Ratio at Birth has been touched the 900 markrnin December, 2016 from a low level of 834 in 2011. Such a claim raises doubtrnabout the authenticity of the data. The claim is looks like based upon thernwindow dressing of the data and there is a marginal increase in Child Sex Ratiornin Haryana. The government machinery is immediately registering the birth ofrngirl child and delaying the registration of male children. This type ofrnpractice is carried out merely to show the achievement of the targets of thernscheme. Hence, effective implementation followed by periodic audit of the datarnis required to find out the true picture of the Sex Ratio in Haryana.
