Preserving the past: A study on modern practices and challenges in textile conservation

Abstract:
Textile conservation is an important aspect of cultural heritage preservation, aiming to extend the life and integrity of historical fabrics. The discipline has seen tremendous evolution in recent decades, incorporating scientific techniques, ethical considerations, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This study presents a detailed overview of contemporary textile conservation procedures, analyses the issues that conservators face, and assesses recent technological and scientific improvements. The emphasis is on preventive conservation, the importance of museum spaces, and the impact of digital instruments. Finally, this work emphasises the importance of continued research, sustainable practices, and international collaboration in the subject of textile conservation.
