Author(s): Amita Srivastava and Parul Tyagi
Abstract:
This study is an attempt to analyze the impact of Indian philosophy in the development of values and value conflict between the street vendors and fixed shop keepers. A group of 120 shopkeepers were selected from Haridwar District, Uttarakhand, India, for this purpose. Out of 120 shopkeepers 67 shopkeepers were those, who have their own fixed shop and 53 shopkeepers were street vendors. The value conflict scale developed by Bharadwaj, was used for determination of the values and value conflict amongst the shop keepers. A significant difference is found regarding the values of Evasion vs. Fortitude, Dependence vs. self- reliance, and Fear vs. Assertion value. Both type of shop keepers falls towards the positive dimension “Love value”, (χ2= 3.92). It is discerned that there is an existing conflict regarding the values of pragmatism vs. Idealism and selfish vs. probity.
