Abstract:Background: The demographic shift in elderly persons population poses challenges of care and support in the absence of traditional caregiving. Government policies and schemes can build a bridge for this gap if the elderly persons are well enough aware of them. The aim to assess socio-personal level of awareness regarding various government policies and schemes among elderly persons in the area Nai Basti of Lalitpur City.
Method: A total of 50 respondents was randomly selected. A predesigned interview based structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analysed by calculating percentage, mean, median, standard deviation and Chi square.
Results: Delineate that awareness across most schemes remained low to moderate, with relatively higher familiarity observed for schemes such as IGNOAPS, Annapurna Scheme, Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), and Pension for Central Government Employees displayed some meaningful associations. Conclusion: Majority of respondents were not aware (34) while (11) were aware, only (3) were fully aware. Male respondent showed slightly higher full awareness (3) compared to females (0). Not aware responses dominated in both groups (17) in males, (18) in females. Data unveiled that scheme for reverse mortgage (χ2= .016*) was significantly associated with age but various schemes like (IPSrC) (χ2 = .036*), Pension for Central Govt. employees (χ2 = .040*), Rebate in Income Tax for senior citizens (χ2 = .015*), Higher rate of Interest (χ2 = .019*), Door-step Banking (χ2 = .022*) had significant association with gender.
