Adolescent girls' lifestyle during menstruation: An interpretive study
Author(s): Priyanka Yadav and Nitu Singh
Abstract:
Menstruation, a pivotal biological event marking the transition from childhood to womanhood, profoundly impacts the lives of adolescent girls. This review article synthesizes existing literature to interpret the various aspects of adolescent girls' lifestyles during menstruation, moving beyond mere physiological understanding to explore the interwoven threads of physical, psychological, social, and cultural experiences. We examine the efficacy of menstrual symptoms, hygienic procedure administration, prevailing myths and prohibition, and access to information and resources on daily routines, school attendance, social interactions, and overall well-being. By adopting an interpretive lens, this review aims to highlight the lived realities of adolescent girls, particularly in contexts such as India, where socio-cultural factors significantly shape menstrual experiences, and to evaluate issues within existing understanding and avenues for subsequent research and intervention.
