Author(s): Kashish Nair and Hemlata Raval
Abstract:
The study investigates the possibilities of Bhairavgarh Batik, a traditional resist-dye craft from Madhya Pradesh, in the creation of new product categories. Traditionally used in apparel, Bhairavgarh Batik has seen limited innovation in terms of product application. With the help of artisan’s interviews and customer feedback through social media polling, the study explores dining table linens to be a promising product area. A set of table runners, placemats and coasters made of cotton with Batik prints enhanced by hand embroidery and minimalistic lace were the product of the research. The collection was created in accordance with the latest developments in sustainable, practical, and beautiful home décor. Strong market interest was indicated by social media poll that found out of 114 respondents, approximately 88% of participants were willing to buy the product. The study emphasized how crucial it is to combine historic knowledge with contemporary design principles to maintain both cultural preservation and economic viability.
