A study on domestic violence among middle aged married women in West Bengal

Abstract: This study investigates the effects and consequences of domestic violence on middle-aged women in India. A snowball sample of 30 middle aged homemaking women was selected for the study. The Measure of Wife Abuse (MWA) Scale was used as the tool for data collection. Descriptive statistics such as mean, Coefficient of Variation were used for data analysis. Chi Square was used as inferential statistic. Findings: there seems to be a significant relationship between responses to item no. 20 (your partner tried to rape you) and age group of respondents with most of the affected respondents belonging to the age-group 40-45 years; there is a significant relationship between responses to item no. 10 (your partner told you that you were crazy) and age group of respondents with most of the affected respondents belonging to the age group 46-50 years. It indicates a trend of shift from physical to emotional violence across the age groups of middle aged women. This study highlights the need for awareness, care, and support services, and policy implementation to prevent domestic violence.
