Renovation is a best way to reduce the post-consumer clothing waste which generated at household level. Through renovation waste material can be used for long time in different ways. Reuse, remodeling and restoration of the old garments make the usable items at different levels. We can reuse the post-consumer waste at house hold level whereas remodeling provide the new look to the old garments by cutting, size variation and change in the trendy look which increase the fashion consciousness in the consumers. Renovation provides a medium to do something creative and interesting whereas renovation, waste generation activities also minimize at household level.
Renovation has big criteria of art and designing. It reduces the income, spend on domestic items and increase the chances of employment to the women at domestic level who cannot go far from her houses to working place. Renovation is the creative way to utilize the time, money and used fabric to renovate or developed the new items which can be used at domestic level effectively. It is so beneficial to housewives who can easily innovate something new from old and used fabrics. We conduct this study to assess the acceptability and suitability of the renovation through developed renovated items.
Sustainability present time the scenario of fashion is a big challenge and textile waste can be reused as the raw material for value added, products. A framework has been developed in the scenario for the creation of upcycled products from grament waste. Indian and global current Scenario on upcycled graments along with the challenges in upcycling is also discussed.
Various upcycling techniques have been applied for the eco-friendly recycling of clothing waste generated in daily life. In the field of fashion, various methods using waste or surpluse resources and circular fashion, designs by developing fabric cutting techniques have been studied as promising upcycling methods. In addition to the environmental conditions and economic implications of saving resources and minimizing waste. The previous few years, fast fashion has been most interesting topic in the global fashion market, The Term" Fast fashion" refers to fashion items that more quickly from runway, to store other to mimic current high end trends. (Vadicherla et al. 2017) [18].
Textile waste has been classified as post-industrial, pre-consumer waste, cutting section waste (Fabric left over, cutting waste, excess fabric, spreading loss etc.) is the pre consumer waste. (Vadicherla et al., 2017, Cao et al., 2022) [18, 17]. This unwanted massive fabric waste produced in the cutting section has become a concerning issue as material cost accounts for the maximum share of apparel casting (Bilgic and Baykal, 2017) [25]. The objectives for this study were to assess the acceptability of the renovation development of household items, to assess the cost of developed items and assess the correlation with overall acceptability of the items’.
This study can serve three purposes, one is to introduce something new and profitable at household level, secondly, it help to reduce the post-consumers waste to domestic level and thirdly it can provide the employment to women and youth of India.
The total twelve household items were developed. The items were evaluated from 121 respondents including 51 boutique consumers, 20 faculties and 50 students of Gangasheel Mahavidyalaya, Nawabganj Bareilly. Rating Scale is framed having 5 parameters. Assessment was done based on criteria that is design, colour combination appearance, neatness and cost.
The correlation between parameter and overall acceptability of the developed product was positive.
