Author(s): Zainab Shah and Nikhila Rane
Abstract:
This review paper explores the evolution of weaving techniques from traditional practices to modern advancements. Weaving, one of the oldest forms of textile production, has undergone significant transformations due to technological developments, changing consumer needs, and sustainability concerns. The paper discusses various traditional weaving methods such as plain weave, twill weave, and satin weave, along with handloom practices that formed the foundation of early textile cultures. It then examines the shift to modern weaving technologies, including power looms, Jacquard systems, dobby mechanisms, and innovative 3D and triaxial weaving. The study highlights how modern techniques have enhanced production efficiency, design possibilities, and material usage while also noting the ongoing efforts to preserve the cultural and artistic essence of traditional weaving.
