Modular and Transformable Clothing
Author(s): Aniqa Ansari and Nikhila Rane
Abstract:
Modular and transformable clothing represents an innovative fashion approach emphasizing prioritization, adaptability, personalization, and sustainability. As the fashion industry contributes to environmental waste, it faces pressure to address environmental concerns and reduce waste. These design strategies offer solutions by extending the lifespan of garments and encouraging sustainable consumption patterns. Modular clothing allows garments to be customized by adding, removing, or interchanging components, while transformable clothing enables multiple styles or function from a single piece. This paper synthesizes key research findings on modular and transformable fashion, exploring the development, design methodologies, consumer perception, and sustainability implications. This also examines various modular design approaches like interlocking systems, geometric modularity, and customizable components. It shows potential to create versatile and unique garments.
