A review of Banjara embroidery

Abstract:
Banjara embroidery, a vibrant and intricate craft, is an essential part of India's rich textile heritage. Originating from the nomadic Banjara community, this embroidery is characterized by its beautiful colors, mirror work, patchwork, and geometric motifs. Traditionally, Banjara embroidery was practiced using cotton fabrics and natural dyes, with each stitch and symbol carrying cultural significance. The involvement of machine work to cater to contemporary markets. Contempt these changes, artisans face challenges due to declining demand for handmade products and economic limitations. Revival efforts, including government initiatives, collaborations with designers, and online platforms, are helping preserve this traditional art while providing financial empowerment to Banjara women. This paper explores the history, techniques, motifs, and contemporary transformations of Banjara embroidery.
