Abstract:
The paper investigates the physical facilities available on the performance of micro and small garment enterprises in the Greater Accra region, Ghana. The study was guided by human capital theory and resource-based view theory. A cross-sectional descriptive survey was employed to collect data from varied respondents of micro and small garment designers, association executives, and customers with clustering, simple random, and purposive sampling methods. The study focuses on independent variables such as tools and equipment (machinery), type of building, and location of the business, with enterprise performance as the dependent variable. Data were analysed utilising descriptive and inferential statistics as well as multiple linear regression to determine variable correlations. The data show a large gender disparity among the respondents, with females making up the majority of micro and small garment enterprise owners. Moreover, a wide range of educational backgrounds was noted among respondents, with the majority holding diploma certificates. The study examined the availability of physical facilities and their impact on firm performance, revealing the type of building and location, quality tools and equipment, and client satisfaction. A regression model study shows moderate association between physical variables and enterprise performance (R = 0.182, p<0.001), with tools and equipment showing substantial positive relationships. The study emphasises the necessity of an increase in the availability of quality tools and equipment to increase business growth among the micro and small garment enterprises in Ghana. Overall, the findings indicate that the coefficient of type or condition of building is not significant to Ghanaian micro and small garment enterprise performance.
