Study on the awareness about the Mediterranean Diet in type 2 diabetic mellitus among the adult population of age group 25-50 years old in Nagpur City

Abstract:
Mediterranean Diet is largely recognized as a nutritional pattern capable of preventing serious pathologies such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, etc. Awareness and knowledge about the Mediterranean Diet is an important step to reducing causes of mortality. An observational survey was carried out on a sample of 100 diabetic patients (aged 25-50 years) to assess their awareness and knowledge about the Mediterranean Diet. The data was collected from diabetes patients by using a structured questionnaire. In the present study, 38% of patients were overweight, 22% of patients were obese, 72% of patients had a history of diabetes in the family, and 90% had a consumption of 2-4 vegetables every day. 26% of patients had eating habits of dry nuts. 24% of patients had a habit of eating junk food. The most important Mediterranean Diet source is olive oil in the diet. Awareness about the Mediterranean Diet is very low and after completing the survey, patients got awareness about the Mediterranean Diet. Thorough knowledge and awareness about the Mediterranean Diet for every patient and normal people is must.
