Abstract:
The fashion industry places immense physical and aesthetic demands on models and performers, requiring them to maintain high energy levels, flawless appearances, and ideal body standards. Despite these challenges, nutrition a critical factor influencing health, performance, and longevity is often overlooked or poorly understood in this context. This review examines the intersection of nutrition and the fashion industry, focusing on the unique dietary needs of models and performers, the prevalence and consequences of restrictive eating practices, and the evolution of industry-driven nutritional guidelines. The paper explores the historical emphasis on thinness, which has perpetuated harmful practices such as restrictive dieting and its associated health risks, including nutrient deficiencies, eating disorders, and impaired physical and mental performance. Drawing on recent literature, it highlights the growing awareness of the need for balanced nutrition and the shift toward promoting sustainable dietary practices within the industry. This includes the incorporation of professional nutritional guidance, policy changes mandating model health standards, and the broader acceptance of diverse body types. By synthesizing existing research, this review underscores the essential role of nutrition in supporting the health, well-being, and professional success of models and performers. It advocates for continued industry reforms and interdisciplinary collaborations to foster a culture of health and inclusivity, reshaping the runway as a platform for sustainability and empowerment.
