Strategies for environmental sustainability associated with plastic pollution

Author(s): Ira Tripathi, Manjul Gupta and Vidisha Mishra
Abstract:
The rise in plastic consumption is contributing to an increase in environmental contaminants. The presence of plastic particles and other contaminants from plastic in the environment and food chain poses a potential threat to human health. Improper handling and management of post-use materials derived from plastic waste can lead to numerous negative environmental impacts. The sustainability perspective of plastic is examined in this review. Waste generation and its processing is a developing sector within the plastics industry however it is crucial for mitigating the adverse impacts of human activities on the environment. According to recent trends, there has been a considerable increase in these activities, which highlights the economic and environmental reasons for recovering and recycling waste plastic. It is anticipated that these tendencies will continue, however, there are still significant problems to be faced as a result of technological considerations, as well as economic or social behavior issues, in relation to the collection of recyclable materials and the replacement of virgin resources.
