The role of Anganwadi workers and benefits habituated under the ICDS scheme in Gurdaspur district of Punjab

Abstract:
The present study depicts the role of Anganwadi workers and the benefits of habituated under the ICDS scheme in Gurdaspur District of Punjab. 300 respondents were studied through interview method. All the infants enrolled under the ICDS scheme in these AWCs were getting immunization and along with that all the enrolled pregnant women were also provided with the vaccinations required during pregnancy period. The Anganwadi workers reported that they were providing facilities of taking care of children, providing pulse polio, education pregnant women regarding nutritional requirements and taking care of nursing as well as expecting women. Along with this education regarding health and nutrition was provided in all the AWCs. The enrolled children under the ICDS scheme were getting the de-worming facility along with health checkup and early childcare facilities. Such facilities like health checkup, health and nutrition education were also beneficial for the adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers of the AWCs. All the children under the ICDS scheme in the Anganwadi centres were healthy and none of them were mal-nourished.
