Abstract:
This research has been conducted in two selected sub-districts (Kesorgonj and Gazipur) under the Dhaka division in Bangladesh. The total sample size was 392 people, taken from 20 primary schools. Students were chosen through the socio-metric method and divided into two groups. Group 1 was more punished for their naughty behavior and poor academic achievement. Group 2's academic achievement was good, they had less naughty behavior, and they got less punishment. Data was collected through the interview method through the two patterns of questionnaires, open-ended and closed-ended. The respondents were students in class five; their age limit was 9-15 years old. There were 52.4% female students and 47.6% male students. According to students' views, 98.7% were punished in school and 67% were punished at home. Students were punished by their teacher in different ways; 24.6% were beaten with a stick, and 9.2% were hit with a duster. Boys (84.75%) were more punished than girls (15.25%). The highest number of students (51.10%) said they were getting punishment from a female teacher. Students were punished for different causes; most of them-21.5% of students- were punished for their incomplete studies. Table 05 shows that from group 1, mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variance levels were very much developed in group 2. The Group 1 student’s cognitive development level was below average for being punished more by their teacher in school.
