Abstract:
India has a very rich diversity, and its plant kingdom is undoubtedly a treasure trove of many natural goods. The dye is one of these natural products. The health hazards of synthetic dyes are compelling the people to think about natural dyes. Natural dyes derived from plants, animals, and minerals are renewable and sustainable bio-resource products utilized not only in textile coloring but also as food components and medical purposes. Natural dyes include a high concentration of phytochemicals, which give the textiles a distinctive functional finish promising their health care potential. This review study examines certain natural dyes that lend therapeutic functional qualities to textiles. Attempts have been undertaken to investigate the phytochemicals responsible for their color, antibacterial and antifungal activity, and mechanism of action, application technique, and bacterial resistance. The dyes studied in this research are chosen to span a broad spectrum of colors ranging from indigo to green to red.
