A study on cereal and millet consumption among college going adolescents

Abstract:
The edible seeds or grains of the Gramineae family of grasses are known as cereals. Many grains, such as rye, oats, barley, maize, triticale, millet, and sorghum, are grown in many nations. Millets are having beneficial effect on disease. Cereal are rich in carbohydrates but comparatively low in protein and naturally deficient in calcium and vitamin A. This study aims to investigate the cereal and millet consumption among college-going adolescents. The research explores the Knowledge about cereals and millets, Comparison of cereal and millet consumption among the respondents. A comparative study was conducted to examine the differences in cereal and millet consumption between Tiruppur and Coimbatore students. The total 200 samples were collected from both cities. The sample collected through google form questionnaire. Major findings of this study is comparing to millet, cereal is mostly consumed by people. Millet consumption is least among the respondents because of high cost, low availability and high duration of cooking time. Most consumed cereal among the respondents was rice, second most consumed cereal was wheat, followed by cereal most consumed millet is pearl millet, and then finger millet.
