Abstract:Rangkat Sari of Banaras refers to a distinctive weaving technique from Banaras, India. These saris are celebrated for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and rich textures, often featuring detailed motifs and patterns crafted with gold and silver threads. "Rangkat Sari" is a pure silk, multi-colored, vibrant Banarasi sari made using the intricate Kadhwa technique. This exquisite and time-intensive technique is identified by the sharp changes in the base colors of the fabric and is a variant of the brocade weaving technique that can only be done on a handloom. The characteristic feature of the sari is that motifs are woven using the supplementary weft in an interlocking tapestry style, distinguishing them from the more common phekwan saris, where motifs are woven by throwing a shuttle rather than individually. This article sheds light on the rich cultural heritage, exceptional craftsmanship and intricate weaving technique of Rangkat saris.
