Use of surface embellishment techniques in clothing and textile

Abstract:
India has a rich and diverse textile heritage, where each region has it’s own unique fabrics and traditional attire. Surface embellishment is fabric decoration created to make the fabric aesthetically attractive and beautiful. The techniques used for surface embellishment includes hand embroidery, batik, tie and dye, printing, painting hand work etc. Surface ornamentation transfigure a garment’s overall look and adds prettiness to it. The main aim of ornamentation is to offer a fascinating aspect. Mirrors, beads, sequins, threads, wires, buttons, and other embellishments are the most often used materials for surface adornment. Surface decoration requires expertise. It has long been a tradition in India. Each area of India is renowned for its distinctive form of surface ornamentation. For instance, mirror work is well known in Gujarat and Rajasthan, phulkari embroidery is well known in Punjab; and so on.
