Application of natural dye on synthetic fabrics: A review
Author(s): Shristi Purwar
Abstract:
Naturalrndyes are derived from plants, invertebrates, or minerals. The majorityrnof natural dyes are vegetable dyes from plant sources-roots,rnberries, bark, leaves, and wood—and other organic sources such as fungi andrnlichens. Natural dyes are mostly used to dye natural fibers like cotton, wool, rnsilk, jute etc. But very little information is available on dyeing of syntheticrnfilament like polyester, acrylic, nylon etc. This paper is a comprehensivernreview of application of natural dyes on synthetic fabrics. The dyeing ofrnsynthetic fabrics with natural dyes requires pre-treatments to generaternhydrophilic groups. This paper highlights about the various pre treatmentrnprocesses used to carry out dyeing with natural dyes on synthetic fabrics. Thernpaper also reviewed the properties of dyed synthetic fabrics.
